Eagles vs. Crusaders

This may have been the best MG football game so far this season. It was both suspenseful and exciting. Plus, we won a very close game. In addition, it was at Camp Randall Stadium, inspiring Shvotz to label it as "Pseudo-Band Day."
At 4:15, we (the pep band) boarded a bus at MG and headed off to Camp Randall. We were set up and ready to play shortly after five. Unfortunately, the Edgwood pep band was also there, and we had to go back and forth playing. They were really bad, too. Anyway, on to the game.
The Crusaders were a really good team and they were expected to win. And they almost did. The first half was fun. Although we were losing, there was plenty of loud cheering to be ....... well, loud about. We even got a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for a certain cheer we had. For the second half, both the game and the cheering were fun. At one point, Edgewood had the ball down to the MG 1-yard line and failed to score, and we drove all 99 yards back and scored. On top of that, we made the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 14. It stayed like that until the end.
        Then came overtime.
Edgewood won the coin toss and as a result, got the ball first on the MG 10-yard line. (Overtime Rules: The coin-toss winner starts at the 10 and gets four attempts to score. If they score, the other team starts from the 10 and gets four chances. Should they fail, the game is over. Should they score, the cycle starts again. Now, should the first team fail to score, and then the second team does score, then the game's over.) After two plays, Edgewood fumbled and we recovered. This meant two things: 1) We got the ball, and 2) If we scored, we'd win. And score we did, in the form of a 25-yard field goal by Scot Berner. We came back from a 14-0 deficit to win 17-14 and keep our undefeated record. We are now 5-0 overall and 3-0 within our conference.
There was one truly classic moment that I feel deserves its own paragraph. Someone had brought with them a giant MG flag that we usually use at the end of the game to celebrate victory. It's worth noting that the flag was not being waved around. Yet, a security guard (toy cop) came during the fourth quarter (while we were in the middle of our 99-yard drive) to confiscate it on the grounds that people behind us couldn't see. What the hell? If it's not being waved around, then how can it possible block the sight of people behind it? Regardless, he tried to take it anyway, despite arguments from Alex Kugle, Grady Lippit, other students, some parents, and the relentless jeering and "A-hole" & "MG flag" chants from the student section. However, he made away with it anyway. But we the students were undeterred and resourceful. Shvotz had a long megaphone-type dealie, and I had an extra shirt. I removed my extra shirt, and using some girls' hair tie-jobbies, tied it to Shvotz's dealie, making a crude but needed flag. We waved it around and everyone was loud and happy again. But then a different security guard (this time a lowly usher) tried to take that, too. So I says, "You can't take that, that's my shirt. I need that." So we got off with warnings, and I got to keep my shirt. But, as we later discovered, there was lots more fun to be had after the game. Due to the already high length of this page, and the fact that it has no football relation, I put it on another page, which you can read here.
At this moment, I do not know who we face next week, but I do know that it is an away game. You can bet that I'll be there, and that I will report on it. Byebye now.
