A Fun-Filled Night
Blood Drive
On Wednesday, October 10th, our school had a blood drive. Now, seeing as how I am both 17 and over 110 Lbs, I decided to sign up. So, I walk into the gym, and get into the line. I was originally scheduled for 11:15, but I showed up a little early, about 11:00. I get the paper-work, fill it out, yada-yada, I'm in line. And oh, what a line! There were at least 20 people ahead of me waiting for a sort of "mini-physical examination" being taken by three doctors at a time! And, to add onto the line, teachers got automatic budging rights! I sat in line and waited for a half hour at least! Anyways, I got to the examination booth. Basically, the first thing they did was check my arms to see if I had already given blood or if I was a drug-addict or something. Next, the doctor took my finger, and BINK! PRICKED MY FINGER! I thought, geez, why the cruel treatment? If this is what the needle in my arm will feel like, I'm not sure I wanna do this! But, in reality, it was just an iron-test, to see if I had enough iron to donate or not. I did, so I went to the next line....waiting for a doctor. Now, as I was waiting, Al Darkow kept on visiting with me which was real nice cuz I forgot to bring something to do. Anyways, the doctor called me over, and at that moment, I remembered how much I hated needles. Al was there to comfort me and gave me a hand I could squeeze....I wasn't gonna squeeze the doctor's hand, she wouldn't have liked that. They also gave me a ball to squeeze every five seconds in my hand so the blood would be forced out. It was a weird feeling, but it didn't really hurt. It was a kewl experience. Anyways, when I got down about 10 minutes later, I went to the refreshment stand. I was pretty woozy, so I had about 10 glasses of water. Big mistake cuz I had to pee several times throughout the day. Teehee. Anyways, overall, it was a great experience and I gave back to the country I have taken so much away from.
